The program allows the individual determination of a content-related focus in one of three specializations and thus allows a targeted preparation for the fields of study of the MSc program (geology, geophysics or mineralogy).
It is possible to place emphasis on different specializations in different semesters, since a determination is only made in the MSc program. Therefore, the Bachelor's degree can be largely designed according to one's own interests.

Geology
Geology studies the structure, material properties and history of the Earth. It deals with the formation and development of continents and oceans, the formation and destruction of mountains, and the long-term and sustainable conservation of soils and water, which are the foundations of human life.
Sedimentary geology studies erosion and transport processes of sediment by air, water, ice, and gravity to deposition in basins, as the key to reconstructing the past lies in understanding recent processes. In addition, sedimentary basins provide raw materials of many kinds. Structural geology and tectonics deal with the deformation of rocks from microscopic to mountain scale. Hydrogeology and applied geology provide the basis for clean water, proper disposal, and minimization of environmental pollution.

Geophysics
Geophysics studies the physical properties of the Earth. It investigates fundamental questions about the Earth's geodynamic processes, including plate tectonics and earthquakes: "How are these processes driven? Where and why do they occur?" are just some of the questions. Another important aspect is the understanding and application of geophysical methods, which allow "deep views" close to the Earth's surface or into its deep interior.
Geophysical methods are used, among other things, in the exploration of deposits, but also in the field of archaeology.

Mineralogy
Mineralogy is analytically and experimentally oriented. It deals with the formation and the physical and chemical properties of minerals and rocks. These studies provide important ideas for the exploration of deposits and the development of technically important solids such as metals, semiconductors, building materials, glasses, ceramics, and new materials that have become indispensable components in daily life.
In addition, mineralogy is concerned with determining the time duration of processes in and on the Earth and contributes to a better understanding of tectonic and geochemical processes.
