Geophysics, Geoelectrics)
Uwe Walzer
Lecture, 2 hours per week. An exercise of one hour per semester week
is offered in addition.
Contents: seismology and applied seismics (continued): Seismic
traveltime curves, attenuation, microseismics, seismic ray theory,
reflection seismics, vibroseis, refraction seismics; results with
geological interpretation, structures in the upper crust of
Schleswig-Holstein, northern Brandenburg, Saxony and Thuringia;

European geotraverse from Norrland to Liguria, Ringköping-Fünen High
(the present-day seismic structure and the evolution in the
Phanerozoic), continent-ocean transition near Baltimore. - Application
of atomic physics to geophysics: Elementary particles and their
conservation quantities, atomic nuclei, atoms, chemical compounds,
crystals; Nuclides (formation and decay), proton-proton cycle, CNO
cycle, stellar evolution, supernovae and formation of nuclides,
distribution of chemical elements in crust, mantle and core of the
Earth, radioactive decay, decay sequences, Sm-Nd age determination,
geochemical reservoirs of the mantle, growth of continental crust,
